The Power of Prints
With my bedroom having been the same for the last 10 years, I have finally come to terms with the fact that a major redecorating process is completely overdue. We moved house in the winter of my first year of university, therefore, taking the time and effort to redecorate my room whilst I wasn't even there seemed to be a slightly pointless. However, as a soon-to-be graduate who will be moving back home permanently, I need to bring some life, soul and maturity back into my bedroom. I look around the place and it doesn't reflect my personality anymore and, seeing as I'm soon going to be spending more time in it than I have done in the past 4 years, it's time for a drastic change.
One thing I have absolutely fallen in love with whilst researching bedroom inspiration is wall decor. I have always appreciated the power of a good ol' poster (shoutout to the Justin Bieber poster that adorned my bedroom wall when I was a kid) and I have always loved affixing an array of magazine cutouts onto my walls. Now that I'm starting the process of redoing my room, I've been so excited to select prints and artwork that is an undoubtable reflection of who I am.
Photowall, a Swedish wall-art company specialising in custom-made products and high-quality design, have been instrumental in helping me get my redecorating process off the ground. They allowed me to select any print of my choice and I really was truly spoilt for choice! Their website is extremely easy to navigate and you can select from a wallpaper, a canvas print, a framed print or a poster, giving you a wealth of different options to consider. I was deliberating between a canvas print and a poster for quite some time, however, I did think that a poster would achieve the sleek, mature look that I'm trying to champion. I also had a thin, square photo frame going spare and I wanted to finally put it to some good use. Once I had decided on a poster, I then spent another age choosing its design. I began sifting through Photowall's copious designs and took a liking to quite a few (mostly Paris themed ones, no surprises there), however, I finally settled on creating my own custom poster. I chose to follow this route as my existing photo frame has square dimensions that I had to stick to and I also really loved the idea of having a print that not a lot of people will have.
The personalisation process was a very uncomplicated affair, as I merely had to upload my chosen photo, choose my dimensions and specify whether I fancied a white border. There was also an option to add a hanging apparatus, however, I opted against this as I already had a frame and I personally prefer the finish they offer as opposed to a hanger. However, if you don't have a frame and would rather have the means to hang it sent with the print, you can choose to receive the hanger at an extra cost. To my delight, my order arrived with me two days after having placed it ; I didn't have to wait very long to get this beautiful print on my wall! It came perfectly and safely packaged and I am thrilled to bits with the quality of the image and the paper. The image itself isn't pixellated or blurry in the slightest, the sharpness is top-notch and I am delighted with the white border, too. I would suggest opting for a border particularly if you have a thin black frame as I do, as it gives a more polished, sleek final product.
Having this print in my room (although I am getting too distracted as I can't help but stare at it) has made me feel extremely excited for the whole process of redoing my room as it is slowly coming into fruition and I'm happy to have started with a small, yet extremely significant addition. If you are using your lockdown to reintroduce some life back into a room in your home, or you want to treat yourself or a loved one to a beautiful piece of wall-art (remember, you can personalise your own!) you can use code fashionismyforte25 to get 25% off any product of your choice at Photowall within the next month.
