Spring/Summer 2015 Key Trends

As the fashion week has passed us by, news about trends emerging from the catwalks has been filling WGSN Trend Forecasting website where I have been eagerly eyeing the new trends for next season. Lets just say, theres lots of variety and lots of colour. This spring will most certainly be a beautiful one, and no I don't just mean the nature spring brings.

KEY TREND: NEW ROMANTICISM

Colour Palette: gentle, romantic. Whisper-light pastels.

Light and feminine feel.

Key Looks: delicate, gentle silhouette. High cut necklines.

Sheer lace trims. Silky satins. Light layers of georgette

e.g. Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Givenchy.

Print & Pattern: chintz-inspired florals. Victorian

Furnishing prints like hand-rendered blooms-very

Decorative and rich ambience e.g Erdem, simone rocha

Materials: innovative approaches to delicate materials.

Broderie anglaise. Transparent laces. Light layers of chiffon

For dimensional tactility e.g. chloe, Christian dior

Details: decorative embellishments. Delicate ruffles, sweet

Shirring, ribbons of lace. Floral applique and seed pearls (reference to nature) e.g alexander mcqueen, valentino

KEY TREND: MAXIMALISM

Colour Palette: saturated brights, silver and gold metallic

(more is more theme), juxtaposition of bold colours.

Vibrancy.

Key Looks: overtly embellished pieces (evoke the excess of

 the 1980’s). intricate embroideries. Materials rich with

vivacious colour and high-shine metallics. Square shouldered

 jackets and coats. E.g. Gucci, Prada

Print & Pattern: elaborate patterns over sumptuous

Jacquards and intricate surfaces. Engineered placements.

Materials: glamorous materials in glittering sequins and

High-shine jacquards. Sheer organza’s have modern twist with vibrant stripes and modern layering. E.g. au jour le jour, Guggi

Details: 3D embellishment with decorative glam direction. ‘More is more’ attitude. Sequins, feathers, overt embroidery, dynamic surface interest e.g. Gucci, prada, miu miu

KEY TREND: SIMPLEXITY

Colour Palette: minimal pallette of both neutral and warm

Tones. Colour is worn head-to-toe= dramatic OR opposing hues.

Unusual tones give sophisticated vibe.

Key Looks: soft, angular approach with both simple and complex

Constructions. True tailoring and patterning accentuate form

And add dynamic interest. E.g. mami, proenza schouler

Print & Pattern: graphic. Mismatched stripes and diagonally

Opposed print. Asymmetric windowpane checks for simple

Constructions. E.g. kenzo, 3.1 phillip lim

Materials: crisp cottons and soft-to-touch fluid linens allow

Designers to wrap, drape, knot and twist. Silky sateens and fluid

silk allow intricate folding and tucking for femininity. Fil coupe

 adds textural dimension. E.g. celine, joseph

Details: simple const5ructions provide minimalist detail. Fine-edged pleating and loose ties appear to provide extra dimension. Oversized metallic buttons add interest. E.g proenza shouler, udon choi

KEY TREND: SPORTS LUXE

Colour Palette: wide, varied range of colour. Focus on primary

Pops as well as basic tones. Dynamic clashes create an

Energetic appeal but monochrome aspects create a lustrous

mood.

Key Looks: sporty direction. Modern silhouettes cut in clean lines

Make a contemporary undertone. Colour, comfort and innovative

Materials are the focus.  E.g. Victoria Beckham, Mami

Print & Pattern: Sporty print and patterns lend vibrancy to athletic

 silhouettes, with vivid stripes, disconnecting patterns and sporting

 motifs dominating the story in a vivid palette of tomato red,

olympic blue and hot, summer orange.  E.g. Lacoste, Chanel

Materials: A wealth of materials creates a contemporary mood with a

sporty appeal. Mesh constructions and technical blends create an athletic

theme. Silks, satins and sumptuous leathers elevate pieces

to luxury status.  E.g. alexander Wang, public school

Details:  sport details and techncal application. Soft utility styled pockets, create unconstructed ambience. Unusual lacing makes a bold impression on leisure inspired silhouettes. E.g public school
